There’s no real comparison of any actor for the Joker. Each is a product of the time. If Heath’s Joker had been in 89 it wouldn’t be praised the way it is now. Jack’s Joker was great but like the film, is a product of it’s time. Burton’s Batman does not stand the test of time. It feels VERY dated when you watch it. I’m sure there’s some kid who’ll play the Joker in 20 yrs who’ll blow us away. The talk Heath’s gettin is no different than Jack’s in 89 when he was compared to Caesar Romero.
Our city of Chicago welcomed the crew with open arms because we were(and still are) in a huge bidget crisis. The Mayor let them do anything they wanted, and I mean anything. We got a masterpiece though.
You are mistaken. The original joker was actually not funny at all. He was just a psycho killer that wouldn’t die. Over the years when it got campier, yes, he became a goofball. But Jack did a great job with the role, let’s not take that away from him just because of what Heath has done. Jack’s portrayal was surprisingly dark, but lets face it, Christopher Nolan’s movies have done a lot for all of the characters, and Joker is another one.
Jack was more of a child’s character. Like that movie was made for little kids. No blood when someone gets shot or anythin’. Heath NAILED the phsyco path that is murderous and crazy.
No, nearly everything I’ve heard is people saying Jack should move over because this IS the definitive Joker. Hey, he’s a practically a fucking Islamic extremist, so I’d be inclined to agree with them.
why does everyone say that jack does better than heath? isn’t the joker supposed to be a murderer, a physco-path, and crazy? heath i think nails that while jack makes it look like a clown. No offense to anybody at all, this is just my opinion
yeah and someone will surpass this joker. When the time comes every character like jack nicholsons or in life particularly you will be surpassed by someone better.
No actually I felt long before Batman EBgins came along that is was unfortunate how the Batman franchise had never been taken that seriously really. What Nolan created is exactly what I wanted. Nevertheless when Jack acts it always seems like he’s only being himself. He is good but it’s the same thing always I feel, same character almost. The joker only felt like Jack playing someone parodically and not very serious or into it, just playing around. Yeah the comics resemble more Jack’s Joker.
You shouldn’t say that just because now you have the dark knight to compare it with. remember that Jack Nicholson is an INCREDIBLE actor, and at the time he played the Joker, he was praysed incredibly for his “realistic” portrayal of the joker. However, Nolan’s joker wanted to contradict the version from Tim Burton, making him more sadistic and less theatrical. But if I am not mistaken, the original joker from the comics was very much like Jack Nicholson’s portrayal.
see Batman (1989) again and you might think differently. Jack was almost embarrassing at times, ridiculous, like a play made for kids, not really convincing and cheesy
🙂 definitely…heath as joker radiated much more charisma…not to mention that he definitely produced a more terrifying chill as he acted out the joker… best…joker ever. 🙂 and i’ve watched all the batman movies w/ joker in ’em
Yeah, with so many bad movies on this decade, I would vote for this one for sure. The best thig about Dark Knight is that they didn’t feel ashamed of doing a comics based movie, with all the jokes and winks kind of like “I’m the character, I know this is just a movie, and it’s silly. And it’s for kids”. I hate that.

It’s gonna take a lot to surpass this one. This performance was, without a doubt, the best I’ve seen.

Nicholson was very good, but it was in a different gear than Heath Ledger’s performance…Ledger breaks the sound barrier.

Sorry but I disagree.
