Derren Brown Astrology
Derren Brown gives readings via “astrology.” From “Trick of the Mind,” S03E01.
Astrology relies heavily on the Barnum and Forer effect, which are statements that can apply to anybody.
Click links below for more information on those effects.

Of course, the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) will pay anyone $1,000,000 for a successful demonstration of paranormal phenomenon under proper observing conditions:

No astrolgers, or crackpots alike, have ever claimed the $1,000,000 prize. Suprise?

This isnt horroscope, or astrology.

hehe I saw that coming^_^

Barnum statements just prove that we’re all similar enough that a detailed description will describe us all accurately (unless you use physical details). We’re all the same person in a different body

The point isn’t specifically about astrology, but all kinds of fortune-telling. They all use this kind of statement, be it astrology, palmistry or tea leaf reading.
If you’re looking for specific debunkings of astrology, think about this: tens of thousands of people use astrology to make money off people, yet 0 of them have used it to make $1,000,000 off James Randi.

Derren Brown is awesome
I love magicians coming forth and exposing the bullshit people of the paranormal claim
The best part, as evident in this comment section, is hearing them grumble and complain

He could have just gone on the internet and looked at their MySpace or Facebook profile.

This is not a test of astrology, or psychic readings (and those are two entirely different things).
It’s a test of human responses to Barnum statements.
And stop bleating on about science unless you’re prepared to slate Derren for his utterly unscientific experiment.

This shouldn’t be headed ‘astrology’, Derren makes no mention of it and neither do the participants. There’s no claim in this clip by Derren (or anyone else) to be even pretending to do astrology. It’s just implied, and that’s how tricks are done – misdirection, playing on presumptions and assumptions, etc. It’s nothing to do with astrological interpretations of personality.

It’s easy, he’s psychic and is proficient in Astrology. He’s just secretive.

that’s so wicked!- I laughed when he got them to pass it around if they got the same one again. _ I knew it was coming cos I read about it in his book.

When I applied to the Randi publicity stunt challenge he lied to get out of my challenge. He said I didn’t want any photos taken, that is a lie. Truth is I insisted we video the whole testing proceedure because I did not trust Randi. I have publicly offered Randi ten thousand dollars if I can’t prove he lied. Randi responded to my “honesty challenge” with profanities. Disgusting way for the founder of an “education foundation” to respond in the language of a gutter snipe…..Bill Perron

I say maybe it does not wok for you , as in it could not help you with questions you had, I am saying that there are millions of people who say that it works for them within the context of them having consulted an astrologer for a question. So no matter what anyone says it works for them.
February 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pm
The answer as to whether it works or not is a subjective one that comes from the client of the astrologer. Actually to a well balanced person with a bit of scepticism it’s exactly the type of thing you should consider when faced with choices in your life.

Real psychics and TRV (techinical remote vewing) which is used by the government for various reasons are not disclosed to the general public.

No one can claim the 1 million because james randi is a fraud. Do you really think he would let people win the 1 million? LOL!
February 7th, 2008 at 8:57 am
I agree with you – it does work.
February 7th, 2008 at 8:16 pm
“maybe it does not work for you, works for plenty of other people”.
Ofcourse it works, it “works” for everyone.
Astrology is like a romantic fiction novel, a fantasy.
Not the type of thing you should consider when faced with choices in your life or need direction.
