Billiards US Open 9-Ball Championship: Souquet v Strickland
5-time U. S. Open 9-Ball Champion Earl Strickland is without a doubt the most controversial personality in the sport of pool. However, like other professional sports jackasses like John McEnroe and Terrell Owens, he makes for good TV. Earl just can’t help himself. Even when he tries to hide from the limelight, he seems to draw more attention to his moronic behavior. Whether you love him or hate him, one thing is for sure, he’ll always give you something to talk about and this match is no exception.
On the other hand, Ralf Souquet is the complete opposite to the antics of Strickland. Souquet is a consummate professional, playing focused and methodical.

i dont think earl acts professional but i sympathize and somewhat agree with him. check out ralph strolling up to the table than mulling over easy road map outs. haha like all of a sudden i forgot how to run. ralph is amazing, dont get me wrong, eh, mandatory shot clocks would solve this. it really seems like ralph played more mechanical than needed as a strategy.

Earl was actually inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006.
December 6th, 2007 at 3:58 am
I think earl being introduced into the hall of fame is just a matter of time. I think the only reason why he’s not in it yet is his foolish behaviour on many occasions…

in order of people understand that he is the best, better.

Efren is considered by many as the world best pool player ever because of his ability to play all disciplines of pool. If it is 9-balls only, based on results, I think Earl Strickland is the best 9-ball player in the history of the game. He has won more U.S. Open and World championships in 9-ball than anyone else. I think he should be in the Hall of Fame already. How many more U.S. Open Titles or World Championships does Earl need to win in order to be inducted into HOF.

Both Earl and Souquet are excellent pool players. Earl has more U.S. Open and World Titles combined than anyone else in 9-balls. Earl is like the John McEnroe of tennis. He threw tantrums and antics that are very annoying yet at the same time can be viewed as entertaining. I think Earl’s behavior might be the factor that Cuetec no longer endorses him. His attitude projects a bad reflection, thus, Cuetec does not want to further associate with him.

Strictland is a good player, he could still be great if he had the patience but clearly he does not.

I have alot of respect for both Strickland and Souquet, they are both amazingly talented at what they do. However, yes, Earl does get frustrated easily and his actions sometimes leave alot to be desired.
Try having some more respect for the skills and talent these men have instead on criticizing every mistake and action they make. Most of you are just jealous that you couldn’t even make half the shots Earl Strickland makes on a bad day, so stop fucking whining and show some respect.

can’t stand earl

Souquet showed some great pool.
Strickland was just throwing his cue at the balls.

billiards is made to have fun, so if you win you should be happy, and if you lose don’t be upset.

strickland is both: really good player and an extraordinary asshole. in my eyes, more asshole as there are more players today who take the job serious. strickland makes presents cause he thinks he -the godfather of us all- does not need to concentrate on playing. LOL, what a dumbass. watch his game against bustamante, really funny to see how he behaves when giving up a match. and giving up because he played bad. he had his time, today he’s just a whining little girlie.

Earl doesn’t need an alarm clock when it’s his shot. He needs the ref to walk up and deliver the cry-baby sook a full-blooded slap. Just like his momma should have, a long time ago. If Earl doesn’t like Souquet playing at his own pace, maybe he should just stay home, and do us all a favour. Coolhandluke, you’re a fool. To defend the actions of Strickland says more about you than it does about him.
