On the 15th of April 1989, 96 Liverpool fans were innocently killed whilst attending an FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough. This montage of clips show how the BBC and ITV reported the disaster.
I was present at Hillsborough that day and my own assessment of the situation is that, of course it is a tragedy. I feel that the ‘blame’ ought to be placed firmly at the feet of those who attended without tickets and forced the hands of the police to open the gates. The police could (in my opinion) do no more. I was in the Leppings Lane end and in that middle section. I cannot honestly recall whether people at the ground were drunk or not.
I have no doubt that a lot of people wallowing in pity on here are prob the same people who sing of munich and cheered when the great george best died – time for everyone to grow up and respect each other. When are other clubs going to listen to us when we show them no respect whatsoever??
I am a Liverpool fan but live outside the City of self pity and think its about time for everyone – police and pissed up supporters/scallies with no tickets – to hold their hands up for the deaths of those poor supporters who lost their lives because they got to the ground early.
Fair comments, I am no Liverpool fan, but at the end of the day it is only football, the rivalry between Man Utd and Liverpool is just a bit of harmless fun. This video was meant to be a mark of respect for 96 LFC supporters that never came home, not an excuse to have slanging matches between rival sets of supporters.
18 years later my thoughts are the families and friends that lost their lives at hillsborough, people of all ages died in that disaster. As a wife and mother fully understand the anguish that you are going through having lost a loved one. RIP YNWA JFT96

Due to the sensitive nature of this video and needless comments by “football fans”, I have now banned comments from being added to this video.

Not attempting to downplay the disaster, but did the game take place before that – or did they call it off for a few days/weeks?
