I have built the site using html and css and it works! How do I get all the content including images etc,. published on the web. I have registered a domain name but I don’t know what to do next. Please help!
ud need webhosting, most domain name registrers also sell the webhosting. just upload all the files to the host, and set the domain names nameservers to the webhosts, and voila
You’re going to need a webhost such as Dreamhost.com. Sometimes your ISP have free webspace, it just depends what you want/need. Then, you will need to upload your files to this hosting and you will be able to view it.
Since you have a registered domain name, I assume you have an ISP that provides you a place to put your website. If you go to the homepage of your ISP there should be a link to instructions about how to upload your website.
If you are using Yahoo Geocities (free), you have to use their online upload program.
Most ISP’s let you upload using an ftp (file transfer protocol) program. There are free ftp programs available from download.com. Also, if you are using a web page editor it may have an ftp feature built in. These programs generally have 2 windows, one showing the directory on your computer where the files are and another showing the directory on the ISP. You are able to select files and move them from one directory to the other.
You will have to set up the ftp program by entering the web address, userid, password, etc. Again, see info on the ISP’s instruction page, or you may have to call the ISP’s tech support.
Once you get the hang of it, it is really easy, but the first time can be confusing. It would be a big help if you can find someone who has done this before to help you.
You need an FTP program to upload from your computer to your webspace – If you go to and search for FTP you will find plenty. Free ones are CoffeeCup, Ipswitch, Smile and others.
