Ask ProfMTH — 1st Installment
I start to answer the many great questions posted in response to my “1500 Subscribers” video. In this first installment, I answer questions about the legal status of virtual child pornography, critiques of Islam, underwear, free will versus determinism, and what I’d do if I found a genie in a lamp. Also, a brief tribute to the Olympics. 😉
More to come.

Music: “Don’t Change” by Lyrics Born

“lol, what a funny show.”
Isn’t it? It’s a favorite of mine. I was laughing hysterically at the bit about the magazine “Girls and Corpses.” “Articles about rim jobs and golf: all the best things in the world *finally* in one place.”
“The people who agree to be on that cleaning show remind me of the people who agree to be on day-time talk shows to talk about their relationship. ”
Indeed, but at least the people on the cleaning shows have their places picked up. That seems a big plus.

lol, what a funny show. The people who agree to be on that cleaning show remind me of the people who agree to be on day-time talk shows to talk about their relationship.

I’ve thought about firing our cleaning lady and letting the disorganization grow until we would be viable candidates for one of those clean-your-house type shows. Among the things that stop me is an aversion to being shamed by some dopey host or hostess on national television — “How *could* you let this place get into such a mess?!” The show “InfoMania” on Current just did a really funny segment on that type of show.

lol. I’ll propose that game but she just might make a similar one regarding my books. A professional organiser sounds good – I just don’t want to end up on one of those home shows my wife loves so much.

…and present it to me, asking, “Want it? Don’t want it?” I manage to part with some stuff and it’s easier and cheaper than hiring a professional organizer — though I should probably just spend the money and get one of those.

“Our new apartment is much snugger so it’s a bit like trying to fill a suitcase with that extra souvenir.”
LOL. I know *exactly* what you mean.
Moving is such a drag. I’m glad to hear that you’re done. Re your wife’s holding on to clothes, you might try playing a little game my partner plays with me from time to time called “Want It / Don’t Want It.” I’m a bit of a pack rat, so from time to time he’ll just gather some stuff up that he thinks I haven’t actually used in a long time…

Definitely, love is a beautiful thing.
Our new apartment is much snugger so it’s a bit like trying to fill a suitcase with that extra souvenir. My wife tends to hang on clothes for a little too long.

No doubt. However, the common ground is that we both appreciate them. 😉 Hey, did you finish up with your moving yet?
October 29th, 2006 at 7:25 am
Ha! yes the Olympics are great. I think we have different reasons for our appreciation of them, though.
November 1st, 2006 at 4:33 pm
That would be great.

Hmm.. Now I’m considering making a new series on determinism and free will.. I’ve done a good bit of writing on some forums lately. Perhaps I should translate all of that material into videos.

“The gateway porn argument reminds me of incitement and hate law. Those probably aren’t bad places to go to establish what would (or what wouldn’t) constitute a reasonable burden of proof for gateway porn.”
Indeed. A very interesting proposal.

Your question comes up in the next part.

I’ve got over 200 questions to answer, Sum1unxpected. I’m not taking any more. 😉

do you draw a distinction between moral subjectivism and relativism?
my philosophy on morality is that it can’t be talked about rationally.

Good video ProfMTH. I’ve been having the “means of production” versus “content” argument with people for a long time. I usually use senor citizens in diapers as my example to illustrate the difference between depiction and reality. It’s equal parts creepy and silly in all the appropriate ways.
The gateway porn argument reminds me of incitement and hate law. Those probably aren’t bad places to go to establish what would (or what wouldn’t) constitute a reasonable burden of proof for gateway porn.

great answers. I look forward to the rest of the series.

Please don’t change. 1 of the things I personally respect about your vids is that you don’t short change the viewer, maybe that’s why your comment section is my favorite read.

“I’m just not sure that we are similarly bound in all areas of our lives…”
Which is why I think ‘free will’ is more often a third party perspective on the actions of another. When we share the same language and culture, we share a boundary to being. Since we do not share the same religion and education our choices will appear quite unconstrained to the other…perhaps we might see them as operating freely.

Thanks a lot, MizarShadow.

Thanks, Unclexbob. OK, I will do it more often.

Thanks very much, BrainPleaser. Very nice of you to say.

Well, Bayer, the only reason his name appears in the title of that case is because he happened to be the Attorney General at the time. The challenge was to the statute, not Mr. Ashcroft. That said, I don’t disagree with your personal assessment of Mr. Ashcroft.

You want to know what it takes to have a video removed. “YouTube reserves the right to discontinue any aspect of the YouTube Website at any time.” Terms of Use Section 4 Subsection J. There are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of videos that should be removed due to copyright infringment. All it comes down to is if some goofball flags your video then another goofball reviews it and says “well I guess it should be removed” Welcome to youtube.
